While Blogging is something many folks are doing and many more would like to do, for those just investigating starting a Blog, where do you start?

Based on the number of inquiries I get every day asking that very question it is clear that inquiring minds want to know! Even though there are various blogging platforms that are available for you to make a Blog, being a WordPress Consultant means that’s the platform I recommend you use.

Many hosting companies offer automated installation of WordPress in their control panels for those not into FTP and configuration details. I use HostGator because of their ease of use in this regard and their unparallelled support for all my sites — including this one. (I never recommend a product or service unless I am using it on my own sites.)

Blogging is popular because all the Blog owner really has to do is type about their interests, passion, products or services. Once you have WordPress installed and your chosen Premium Theme in place and tweaked to your liking, the technical aspect of making your Blog is pretty much on auto pilot leaving the Blogger to only have to worry about what they want to write about.

So, how do you make a Blog?

Here are some considerations and links to resources here on my site and elsewhere to show you how to make a Blog:

If you already have a Web site, you can easily add a Blog by installing WordPress on your established server. Or check your Web host’s control panel (cPanel) for a WordPress installation tool.

If Blogging for fun or a hobby, you can setup a free blog @ Google’s Blogger.com or WordPress.com. While these services are not as flexible (you do get what you pay for) if you want to Blog purely for hobby (non-commercial) reasons, and don’t want anything too fancy, either of these services will do.

If Blogging for business, you need to get your own HostGator Hosting Account ($ 4-$ 12 a month) so you can have your own domain and use your domain e-mail address. Free services won’t do in this case. In addition, Premium WordPress themes are now designed to be a CMS (Content Management System) that includes a Blog. So you can manage your entire site and Blog at the same time.

WordPress Themes: There are a ton of free theme archives out there but you have to be careful because free themes generally include not only the author’s link in the footer, but links to sometimes questionable sites and affiliate programs as well.

I have no problem linking to the developer who offers free themes however including additional promo links that many times are encrypted and cannot be removed, is going a bit too far. You also have to hope that when WordPress updates that those free theme developers will offer an updated version of their theme on a timely basis if necessary (otherwise your site may break when you update WordPress).

Check that the free theme developer also offers pay-for Premium Themes in addition to their free offerings as this reflects they do understand the importance of supporting their themes as WordPress evolves.

WordPress Theme Resources:

My two favorite theme shops introduced a couple themes this week that have me really excited. Both offer elegant and beautiful designs to allow your business to shine while also being fully responsive. This means your site will display nicely regardless of screen resolution, size or device.

Both themes will give your site that professional polished appearance that is so important to being taken seriously so you are viewed as a credible online enterprise. At the same time these themes give you the ability to feature your important content and add focus to those areas on your site you know your visitors are seeking out most.

You can’t go wrong with either of these themes if you are looking to upgrade to keep up with the mobile revolution. Both themes are backed with quality code and support that is the best in the industry which pretty much makes this decision a no-brainer!

This means everyone in your organization is on the same page when it comes to how to communicate and assist your potential and current customers. Excellent customer service naturally should transfer to your supplier and vendor relationships as well. Solid customer service practices must permeate everything to do with running your business if you are serious about long term success.

I can tell you emphatically that the key to my success has had at its core my personalized service and support. Not just when I am wearing my WordPress Consultant hat but with my other sites as well. I respond promptly, professionally, personally and in detail to all requests I receive. I manage my ability to do this by making it a priority to organize my responsibilities to allow for the necessary time I need to provide the level of service I am known for and that clients rely on.

It’s that time of year…. Planning for the Summer wedding season is in full swing! And how cool is it that you can now have a Wedding Planning Web site to keep all your family and friends up to date with the latest details?

I’ve reviewed several Premium WordPress Wedding Themes in the past and at this time of year instead of sending folks a list of links, I thought I would summarize my top 3 Wedding Themes in one post for your convenience.

Having a Wedding Web site gives you the opportunity for everyone to join in the process by keeping them up to date, uploading photos and having comments and conversations about the big day.

Here are some more ideas for how to use your WordPress Wedding Web site…

You can post the closest hotels and accommodations.

You can post details about the bachelor and bachelorette parties (and the photos — if you dare).

You can post locations of showers and fitting dates.

You can post directions and photos of where the Wedding will take place and the reception venue.

You can have your best man/woman post photos the the site as folks arrive to the reception. What a great way to involve those unable to travel to your location.

You can have the professional photos posted when you receive them afterward.

You can post photos of the gifts you received and comments for all to see.

You can post updates and photos from your honeymoon (well, not everything!).

Here are a few of my favorite Wedding Premium WordPress Themes …

Blissful Wedding Theme
Read my full review here…

“Blissful” is an elegant and feature rich premium WordPress Theme that gives you the opportunity to have your own dot com and keep everyone up-to-date with the latest info and plans.

This premium WordPress Wedding theme includes dual navigation. Top primary for all your important pages and secondary navigation to display each of the categories you will be posting about. The top header also includes easy navigation to subscribe to your feed, Facebook page, Twitter and Contact forms. Very cool!

Save The Date Wedding Theme
Read my full review here…

The “Save the Date” Premium WordPress Wedding Theme can help you to get the word out about your important date so everyone can — save the date!

Have pages for the Bride, Groom and of course your Blog to journal all the events right up to the big day. Start a YouTube Channel documenting the milestones leading up to the Wedding and add videos to you Blog! You can even have a place where invitees can R.S.V.P through your site.

Mr. & Mrs. Wedding Theme
Read my full review here…

Have fun creating and maintaining your wedding Web site easy with the Mr. & Mrs. – Wedding special theme that comes with 4 elegant, detailed color-schemes for you to choose from.

Share the moments up to and after your big day with all your friends and family. You can have categories that document your Journal, Our Story, Our Events, Gift Registry, Wish List, Photo Gallery, Reception Venue, RSVP, Family and Friends and so much more!

That’s Outbound Marketing. Now, so much of our marketing efforts depend on the online activities we participate in to drive traffic to our Web sites — enter Inbound Marketing.

Inbound Marketing is the term used to now define what I’ve talked about for over a decade. Providing useful and unique content to bring potential prospects to your WordPress site. You then use Social Media, SEO, Blogs and e-mail marketing to get the word out.

“Inbound marketing is a marketing strategy that focuses on attracting prospective customers by offering useful information.”
~Brian Halligan, cofounder and CEO of HubSpot | – Inbound Marketing Wikipedia

What I found interesting in the infographic below was that the cost per lead for Inbound Marketing was 1/3 less to acquire more leads than traditional Outbound marketing. Being small businesses are the early adopters of Inbound Marketing it is easy to see Inbound Marketing as an equalizer.

Of course, different combos and mixes will work for different markets — that’s where you always want to be testing and tuning to find out what works for you, your WordPress site, your business model and your target customer. But the great thing about having a WordPress site is that allot of these tasks are much easier.

What combo of Inbound Marketing have you found works best for your business and what is your biggest challenge?

For me it is a little bit of everything but in the end it is all about time and finding more that I ever seem to have laying around. You?
